The heartworms that attack the heart eat at the heart resulting in a shorter life span. Fortunately, there are many different types of medications that can help stop the worms from getting into the heart.

To avoid heartworms, you need to make sure they eat the right foods because there are actually some foods that can cause heartworms. Prevention can also help here. Watch your cat outside and clean the litter box out each night. Make sure you visit the vet on a regular basis.

When you get your cat, you should get him or her set up with tick and flea prevention. Parasites such as fleas and ticks can have a negative effect on your cat’s health. Ticks on the body can cause many diseases that harm the body. They can cause your cat to go through some devastating problems with her health.

Another pest problem is having fleas which can cause felines to have bad health as well. The prevention of fleas will be a good idea if you have a cat because fleas can very well kill your feline if you don’t get the condition treated. There isn’t much you can do when your cat is young, but there is some powder you can use that helps cut down on them.

If your cat has a problem with fleas and ticks, then you and your cat need to visit the doctor to see if he or she is still healthy after being exposed to them. Your fluffy ball of joy needs a good type of medication that can get rid of the fleas and ticks. You can get this information by speaking to a vet. The vet will point you to a good brand that can help your cat get rid of this problem.

When you avoid most of these health problems, you will have a healthy cat. However, there are more health problems that you need to know about. Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) is one thing that is common in most friendly felines. You will come across situations where your pet has a UTI because of the litter that you are using.

There are certain types of litter that contain chemicals that can harm the urinary system which then creates a UTI. To avoid problems with a UTI, you need to find the type of litter that helps prevent UTIs. The type of litter that should be used for felines is the type that is safe for them to use. The vet needs to see them in order to make sure they get the right meds that can help them get rid of the problem. UTI occurs often with males and rarely with females. UTIs can be fatal if you do not take your cat to the vet to get her looked at.

The most important type of cat health problem that needs to be taken care of is Feline Leukemia. This is known for causing death in felines. You can prevent this health problem by getting them vaccinated. When your cat has leukemia, it is important to avoid contact with other cats. Why? I rescue cats and take care of many. The food I feed is innova EVO can food. I feed no dry at all. It actually proven that dry food creates type 2 diabetes in cats and kidney problems. Dry food does not clean teeth, but it gets stuck in between (as cats do not have grinding teeth in the back) causing tooth decay. As to the vaccinating cats (the most controversial subject) I do not do distemper, only rabies and that’s when they reach 6 months, 6 weeks later they are fixed. The less shots they get the better for their overall heath. I did so much reading on the subject and seen it with my own eyes. Because of distemper vaccine (given at 9 weeks) I ended up with 3 very sick kittens, two recovered and one had neurological problems till this day. Before taking any advise PLEASE do your reading, don’t trust just one person, your cats life depends on it.
