There may be nothing cuter than a kitten with a cold, but it is no fun for kitty. There are a few things you can do to help out of this predicament.

Keep kitty away from everyone else out there. When sodium intake in cats with ascites rather limited, the delay of water and sodium stops. Be sure to keep the water coming rather than not.

If your kitty doesn’t have a fever, then you want to keep her nice a warm with a blanket and maybe a humidifier. And at the expense of symptoms, sometimes it seems that this is typical. They run, they feel good and then can suddenly be laid up without a moment to breath. If they are healthy enough, leave them be, but try to keep around in case she needs you.

Keep your kitty’s meals small and routine. Note fetid breath, feeling show an increase in lymph nodes. In the mouth there is clearly one-sided ulcerative soft tissue defects.

Another thing that may be happening, is that your kitten may just not be interested in food right now. Animal depressed, not eating. Inflammatory swelling tonsils – cause difficulty swallowing and coughing. Inspection of the pharynx reveal intense redness. Try vitamins and minerals in her water.

Routinely change the linens on the bedding that your cat is using. Instead of the other bedding, use the rest of the mainline turkey lauder. But really, take care of the kitten’s toys and auto-fillers. She can’t if you do not make room for all the things she needs.

If your kitty will put up with it, use a warm washcloth to clean around her eyes and nose. Just wipe away some of the things that seem to be getting in the way of feeling better.

To be on the safe side, you may want to take your kitty in to the vet if things don’t improve in a certain amount of time. This goes double if she has a fever or isn’t eating.

This writer additionally frequently blogs regarding things including air conditioner rental and square recessed lighting.

Fleas are agonizing for animals. They cause insistent itching and make it nearly impossible for the affected dog or cat to get comfortable. Fleas are a problem for both indoor and outdoor pets almost year round and their durable eggs can make them very difficult to get rid of. Capstar flea control products work fairly well against infestations and can usually bring relief in four to six hours.

Before treating a dog with any flea medication, always consult the pet’s veterinarian first. Capstar can be obtained without a prescription but your dog’s vet should still be notified. The treatment may interfere with your dog’s medication or diet and a vet or doctor will be able to tell you whether or not the animal can safely take it.

It is fairly difficult to get pets, especially dogs, to eat foreign objects. So before you find the method that works, you may have to try a couple of different ones first. For starters, bury the Capstar pill in the dog’s food bowl when it isn’t looking. Since most dogs don’t look into their bowls during feeding, this is usually the easiest way. Always check the bowl after the animal has finished eating to determine if the pill was consumed.

There are still other effective methods if the dog ate everything but the Capstar capsule. Another one would be to insert the pill into a treat before giving it to the dog. If that doesn’t work, the capsule can be wrapped around a piece of ham or cheese as well. If your animal notices the pill or spits it out after eating around it, there is one last, less desirable, option left.

With a pill dispenser or your hand, place the flea medicine in the far back of the dog’s mouth, on its tongue. Then hold its jaw closed until the dog swallows the flea pill. Resorting to this method means that you’re liable to get slobbered on or even bitten but at least you’ll be sure that the dog finally consumes the pill.

No matter which method you utilize to give the Capstar treatment to your dog, be sure that the pet has eaten the pill afterwards. As with other pills, these tiny capsules are able to get stuck to the side of a dog’s gums and teeth and many dogs will simply cough it out. When you are sure that the capsule has been swallowed, make note of what the time is.

For medium and smaller dogs, Capstar should take an effect in about four hours. It may take around six hours for larger dogs. If you are still finding fleas on your dog twenty four hours later then you’ll have to re-administer the pill every day until all of the critters are dead.

Once your pet is flea free, make sure they stay gone by using several flea prevention products. Flea collars and special shampoos will keep the pesky critters gone after the Capstar pill has done its job. You could also start your dog on a monthly treatment if you are worried about him becoming infested again.

Spring is a time of year when our cats can become susceptible to flea infestations, however with the milder winters, infection can occur all year round. Fleas aren’t just an irritant, they can course an allergic reaction in some cats and may transmit disease.

The problem can grow quite quickly as well. In only six months, 200 fleas will have become 10,000!

To stop a flea problem becoming an infestation you need to treat your cat and it’s surrounding area. So what treatments are available to you?

Off the shelf flea treatments:

There are several remedies to go for; spot-on medicines, collars, ‘electric shock’ combs, sprays and tablets. What you decide to use will be governed by what’s easiest for you and your cat:

One of the easiest methods to use are flea collars. They’ll be able to protect your cat for up to four weeks. Even so, some owners are uncomfortable having collars on cats.

Spot-on drops are a very effective treatment, protecting your cat from fleas for up to 5 weeks. Some brands offer two types, one for cats or one for dogs, so make sure you get the right one, as a cat can be overdosed using the dog formula.

Electronic combs is a flea comb that emits a mild electric shock, enough to kill the fleas it comes in contact with, but that is harmless to your pet. The benefit here is that no chemicals are involved, but you will need to be thorough with the comb and it can miss the eggs, so you’ll have to keep repeating the process for it to be effective. There is also a slight buzzing noise when it “zaps” a flea that may put off some cats.

Sprays that are designed to be used on your car are an inexpensive way to combat fleas, but cats need to be over 3 months of age, the ‘hissing’ noise may also be a problem for some cats.

Oral Tablets will kill all the fleas on your pet, but it can be difficult to get your cat to swallow a pill unless your well practiced!

Your cat’s litter box is a very important decision to make for him/her and is essential for your cat to be happy in your home. The rule of thumb is to have one litter box for each cat in the house. Shallower litter boxes should be used for kittens while deeper litter boxes should be used for bigger cats. Here are some different types of litter boxes available for your cat.

Basic Flat Box – These are the cheapest litter boxes for your cat. The flats boxes come in many different sizes, depths and colors. They are generally very easy to clean and actually preferred by many cats.

Covered Box- This would be our number one pick in litter boxes. The covered boxes have a top that covers them and gives your cat a secure private potty area. An opening at one end allows your cat to go in and out of. A swinging door is featured on some covered boxes, but we usually takes these off in order to keep our cat from feeling trapped and confined in their own litter box. Make sure your cats litter box is big enough for them to turn around in and stand up straight. These litter boxes are especially recommended for cats that spray.

Self Cleaning Boxes – One of the newest types of litter boxes are the self cleaning ones that are motion activated. When your cat leaves their litter box, a sensor is activated that triggers a rake that then scoops the cat matter into a receptacle that can then be manually emptied every couple of days. It may be necessary to experiment with different types of litter to see which one scoops the best. Be aware though that some cats don’t like the mechanical actions and always check the product guarantee before purchasing.

Sifting Boxes – These have two rectangular pans and a sifting tray. The boxes stack on top of each other and the sifting tray sits in the top pan. When cleaning the box, separate the two litter boxes and lift the sifting tray out which then removes the cat waste and leaves clean litter behind. Then you place the sifter in the top pan and place the clean litter over it. After the waste is dumped you can then put the empty box in the bottom.

New Cat Condos makes a line of cat condos, cat gyms, cat furniture, and cat scratching posts that are Ready to Assemble (RTA). These products are easy to assemble (under 3 minutes) and now shipped directly to your house at the best price.

Encouraging our cat to drink lots of water regularly will establish good health condition and minimize the risk of common medical ailments resulting from lack of drinking fluids. These include dehydration, forming kidney stones, and etc. The best way to do is to introduce to him the dog water fountain. Most cats as we all know are very active in nature; they love to chase small running targets when they see one.

The running water from a pet drinking fountain will effectively grab the interest of any curious cat that sees them. This will eliminate the dreaded task of teaching them on exactly how to use it but they will learn it on their own. Cat water fountains are best for small dog owners who are working and always travelling.

Based on the model you ordered and how big the water reservoir is, just simply load it up when you wake up in the morning and it will be enough to take good care of your pets the whole day or perhaps a few days until next refill. If you are planning to take a quick holiday vacation, say 2 or three days, you can pair it with an automatic cat feeder and fill it up just before leaving them. Finally you can enjoy your vacation without worrying about your beloved pets. The cat water fountain will guarantee that they have refreshingly clear water continuously.

The drinking fountain works by distributing the water from the water reservoir using a small submersible pump. The water then moves through a set of water filters to isolate the water contaminants such as dirt and other harmful particles that come in contact with the water. It actually has a combo of two water filtration systems, a micron filter for foreign substances that are blended with the water and a charcoal filter to get rid of bad flavor and scent. What they have is a crystal clear healthy drinking water every time they want it. To be able to keep the proper functioning of the water fountain, the filters should be replaced regularly. These filters can be obtained in most pet stores or in the store where you bought the unit.

When selecting a good cat drinking fountain you must consider the following: One is the size of the unit, depending on the number of domestic pets you have in your house, choose one that have large enough water tank for all of them to avoid refilling it every now and then. Second is, you need to examine the water pump, most people who recently own a water fountain are complaining about loud noises coming from the pump. You need to ask a demonstration first and pay attention to the water pump, if it is vibrating too much or it creates a lot of noise then do not purchase it. When you buy a brand new product it usually come with a set of filters and sometimes you also get an extra filter for spare, free of charge. If it is not included it is highly recommended to purchase a spare filter for an instant replacement when the old one expires.

Maintaining the well being of our pet truly depend on us, our pets do not possess the ability to inform us what they want. They are only depending on us when we are going to give them the water they need. Oftentimes we are too busy and we ignore and neglect them, forcing them to find water on their own and who knows where. If you really love your pet, do them a favor and order a cat drinking fountain.

For more tips about the different kinds of cat drinking fountain like Cat It Water Fountain and PetMate just visit www.catdrinkingfountain.org and get the cheapest deals.

For many people pets are loved the same way as their children and it makes them miserable when a pet is miserable. Any pet is likely to be exposed to mites at any time. Ticks and mites belong to the same subclass. The name of this common species is otodectes cynotis. This mite chooses to live within the ears of various animals. Transmission of these ear mites can happen just by animals walking by one another.

A variety of animals are affected by this mite like dogs, cats, guinea pigs and ferrets. It is also possible for people to be affected, although it is rare. Rabbits are affected by a larger mite.

One of the first indicators of a mites presence is brown crusty material in the ears of an animal. The mites can be seen as little white specs in the brown matter within the ear canal. This type of mite chooses not to burrow as other mites do. This is responsible for ear infections in many animals and the number one cause in cats.

These mites result in bacterial and yeast infections. The ears of an animal will most likely be red and inflamed. The animal will probably spend a great deal of time scratching at the ears and shaking their head.

This condition, if left untreated, can easily spread to other areas of the body. The tail and neck are usually the first areas that become infected. Serious skin infection and disease will likely follow. The possibility of deafness also exists if treatment is withheld for a long time.

To treat an animals ears the debris has to be removed first. Medication containing an antiparasitic must then be applied in the ears. If more than one pet is in the household, it is wise to seek veterinary care and have each animal treated with ivermectin. A good drug available for cats is selamectin and this lasts for a month at a time.

Rabbits are affected by larger mites that get into their ears. These mites are called psoroptes cuniculi. The material that is formed in this case is not crusty, but thick and very solid. It is also possible that it will spread to the outside of the ear and face of the rabbit. A rabbit will exhibit the same behaviors as other animals like scratching and head shaking when infected with mites. In order to rectify the situation, the cage and rabbit have to be rid of mites. Clean the cage frequently in order to prevent further infestation. The rabbit can be treated with ivermectin. Another suggested remedy is the application of olive oil. Remove all debris, and then apply the oil in order to smother mites.

Mange is a certain type of skin disease that afflicts domestic animals including dogs and livestock. Parasitic mites trigger this condition when they burrow into skin or hair follicles.

Demodectic and Sarcoptic mange are the two main types of this disease found in canines. Demodectic mange is also called Red Mange and renders the immune system incapable of keeping control of the mites that live in hair follicles. Bald patches are the first indication of this disease and bacterial infections set in causing increased irritation and itching. With a weakened immune system, the animal is susceptible to other diseases and will sometimes succumb to them.

The Sarcoptic version of this condition is also known as canine scabies. This is similar to human scabies and will manifest as mites burrow into the skin. Again, the animal scratches to relieve the itching and this damages the skin. Signs of this form of the disease will show up in the armpits, groin area and the ears as red spots. As the mite embeds itself, serum seeps out and dries into a crust and infections of the wounds are common.

Signs of this condition include red spots along the ear edges as well as in the armpit and groin area. The spots are caused when the mite embeds itself. As serum escapes from the skin, it dries out and forms a crust. These sores often become infected.

The dog should be taken to a dependable veterinarian. He or she will examine skin scrapings for mites. This is not always fruitful since the scratching and biting will tend to remove the mites from the area. If no parasites are visible, the vet may need to diagnose the problem from symptoms alone.

Take the dog to a reliable veterinarian where skin scrapings will be examined for the detection of mites. If the mites have already been removed from the dog by chewing and scratching, the vet may rely on symptoms alone to the make the diagnosis.

The vet may be able to prescribe Selamectin, a topical ointment that has been shown to be effective in treating this condition. Drops of mineral oil applied daily to the ear canal may rid that area of any burrowing mites. Any debris in the ear canal should also be cleaned out on a daily basis.

This debilitating disease can be avoided with good hygiene. Particularly susceptible to mange are young animals that become malnourished and develop intestinal parasites.

A common problem, ear mites are an irritating pest. They can cause your cat to scratch the ears, sometimes to the point of cutting and damaging the ears and surrounding areas. The are easily passed from one cat to another, and if a household has multiple cats, each one will likely require treatment.

While scratching may be one sign of the presence of the mites, another can be a thick, dark substance in the ears. Attempting to remove this substance by probing with cotton swabs should be avoided as it can cause irreparable damage to the ear canal unless done by someone trained to do so. It can also push the mites further in and make treatment more difficult.

In advanced or prolonged cases, the cat may have scratch enough to cause damage from the nails. Ears may bleed and have cuts and sores that can be painful. An infection can result if the open areas are not cleaned and treated with an antiseptic preparation. Keep hind nails clipped throughout the treatment of ear mites to prevent the cat from further damaging the ears.

It is always advisable to see your veterinarian so that a proper diagnosis can be made. Your vet will be able to clean the ears safely and prescribe medication to help get rid of the ear mites. There are other ways to eradicate the mites as well, but they may be less effective than veterinary products.

Many cat owners faced with an ear mite problem have had success using mineral oil as a treatment. The oil is dropped into the ears and helps to suffocate the mites. It must be continued for at least two weeks in order to ensure that all mites have been killed, as it will not affect the eggs of the mite. Using the oil will cause the cat to attempt to shake it out, and will help to loosen and dislodge the mites.

Continuing to treat the mites for the entire two weeks will ensure that any eggs that hatch into mites will be treated and removed. Treating all cats in the household ensures that the cycle stops and it cannot be passed around.

These pests can be successfully treated and removed at home, as long as it is done properly. Ensure that the treatment is sufficiently long enough to ensure removal all eggs and mites. If this method fails, see your veterinarian to ensure the problem is looked after as soon as possible.

Owning and caring for pets can be a bit overwhelming. There are a variety of issues that can cause problems. One of the more sensitive areas for pets is the ears, which is also tough to care for. Perhaps the most common issue with the ears is the occurrence of ear mites.

These mite infestations are a common occurrence for pets, especially for cats and dogs. Essentially every mite infestation of the ears are grouped under this category, with the most common culprit being Otodectes cynotis. Many pets may have a problem but the signs of the issue may not be readily apparent.

Cats are the most common sufferers of this problem, however, dogs and other mammals are also subject to it. Occurrences of humans developing the problem are very rare and should not be a real concern. However, the problem can be very aggravating for pets and should be identified and treated immediately.

Symptoms of this condition can be hard to identify unless the issue is troubling the pet. A pet owner will often notice the animal shaking its head and scratching at its ears. This is a sign that the animal is uncomfortable with the mites. Inside the ear there may be a dark crust or wax that is observable.

Prevention of this problem can be very difficult. The only ideal method of prevention lies in keeping pets away from sources of the parasite, including other pets and strays. It is important that you check your pets ears often for signs of the mites, and gently flush out the ears regularly to prevent breeding.

Treatments for ear mites are usually effective and tend to eliminate the problem after a couple of weeks. There are over-the-counter options available, however, these will vary greatly in effectiveness. The best option is to speak with your local vet for a diagnosis. Once the problem is properly diagnosed, the veterinarian can then prescribe much more power prescription medications that will make the treatment process much easier and faster.

Although it can be a troubling issue, and very aggravating one for pets, the problem of ear mites is usually not a serious one. It is very common and can typically be treated easily. However, it is a good idea that you speak with a vet. This is important to get a real diagnosis and more powerful medication that can eliminate the problem more quickly.

Mange most commonly seen among dogs and caused by three varieties of mites. Some types of mites which cause a mangy condition are self-limiting and may die off within a few weeks. However more serious types of mite infestations can cause the dog to bite itself ferociously and can be a disfiguring and contagious condition. Moreover, some of these pests may be so small they are difficult to detect even using a microscope and skin scrapings.

A common variety is caused by the demodex mite and known as Demodectic. The mites are normally present but dormant on many puppies but for reasons unknown, can become active and grow out of control on the skin of the puppy. This might be most often seen in puppies between three to twelve months of age. This mite infestation can cause mild thinning of the hair they eyes and mouth. While the might may eventually be brought under control by the natural immune system of the puppy, some cases can grow to a more localized infestation and require treatment to bring the condition under control.

Cheyletiella mange is caused by a large red colored mite. It is also called walking dandruff because of the coating of dandruff seen along the ruff and back of animals with this type of parasitic infection. The mite causes mild itching it is contagious but also the problem is short lived. The mite will die not long after leaving the host.

The most well known variety is infestation is the Sarcoptic variety or scabies. This is caused by a very tiny mite which may be hard to detect even using skin scrapings and a microscope. Dogs bite at themselves in an attempt to remove the eggs the female mite has laid just under the skin. The resulting condition is disfiguring, uncomfortable and difficult to diagnose because dogs bite so deeply they remove large patches of hair and skin and the typical red bite marks might also be hidden by the constant scratching.

In addition Sarcoptic mange is contagious to humans. A beloved family pet may give the mite to the kids who then spread it to neighbors. Diagnosis of this type of this infestation on pets may be on the basis of observation rather than clinical testing because the condition of the skin and the constant scratching can remove obvious signs.

However skin conditions which resemble a mite infestation may also have other causes. Allergies to fleas, bacterial infections, or even autoimmune diseases can cause skin problems that may be similar in appearance and mistaken for mites. It is always good practice to take the pet to a vet for a professional opinion before embarking on a home treatment program.

There are many available products to treat this mite infestation in dogs. A rinse made of sulfurated lime applied twice a week can be effective. However pet bedding should be sanitized as well as the environment. Selamectin is approved for use on pets with a parasitic overgrowth in some countries. A drug called Ivermectin is also widely used for treatment though it also may not be approved to treat parasites.

The main reason is because dogs are like humans in that their skin can vary from dog type to dog type. If you use the wrong dog shampoo you can be doing more harm than good. This will make it more difficult for you in picking out the right shampoo for your dog. And do not think that using a human shampoo on a dog is safe because human shampoo does not have the same pH that a dog shampoo does. The dog can experience skin irritation because the human shampoo has a pH that is lower than what the dog's skin needs. When it comes to using shampoo for dogs, the same principles apply that are used for human beings. Why is this so? It is because just like us humans, dogs have different skin types that need different shampoo's. When we use the wrong shampoo it can leave our hair dried out and out scalp flaky. Well, the same applies to an animal. You can just use a human shampoo on your dog and expect it to work. Pet shampoo's have different ingredients that make them unique to your pet. The dog can experience skin irritation because the human shampoo has a pH that is lower than what the dog’s skin needs. When it comes to using shampoo for dogs, the same principles apply that are used for human beings. Why is this so? It is because just like us humans, dogs have different skin types that need different shampoo’s. When we use the wrong shampoo it can leave our hair dried out and out scalp flaky. Well, the same applies to an animal. You can just use a human shampoo on your dog and expect it to work. Pet shampoo’s have different ingredients that make them unique to your pet. Using a human shampoo on your pet can dry their skin out considerably because the pH is lower than that of pet shampoo.

These are just a few of the steps that you can take when you are deciding on a shampoo for your pet:

- Try to determine what kind of skin your pet may have. If you notice that your dog has flakes throughout his fur then its more than likely he has dry skin. If you are petting your dog or rubbing his fur and you come away with a greasy feeling on your hand, then you know that your pet has an oily skin. If your pet has neither of these variations, then your dog most likely has normal skin. If you are unsure about this, just ask your vet the next time you take your pet in for a checkup.

- Pick a dog shampoo that is specific to your pet’s skin condition. You should try to pick a shampoo that has natural ingredients in it. If you look at the ingredients and the names look very “chemically” then it is most likely not “natural”. Those chemical sounding names are most likely synthetic products.

- If your dog has an issue with fleas and ticks, then an all natural dog shampoo that is designed to eliminate fleas and ticks should be your choice. However, using such a shampoo means that it is important to avoid getting it in the dog’s eyes and mouth because it can be harmful.

- If you find that your dog is scratching itself a lot in one particular place, this could be a sign that your pet is suffering from a more serious skin condition such as dog mange. The use of the dog shampoo should be discontinued at this time and you should consult with your veterinarian on the steps that you should take. Should your dog be suffering from mites, then the vet might prescribe an anti-parasitic shampoo to kill the mites. If your pet’s skin is found out to be just dry, then you can either use a dog shampoo that has conditioner or one that has aloe vera in it.

- One more thing you should take note on when buying a dog shampoo is if it is overly scented or not. The ingredients that they put into the shampoo to make it so scented could be synthetic and do more harm to your pet’s skin than good. You should strive to get a shampoo that has little scent or no scent at all. Your dog will thank you because he won’t be walking around smelling like he just got out of a perfume factory.

By following these few steps you can find a dog shampoo that best fits your dog’s skin type. Skin irritation should not happen if you have the right shampoo. Not all dog’s have the same skin type, so it is important that you do your homework when picking a shampoo out for your dog. If you are not sure then you should ask your vet for help in picking one out. Your dog will love you for it.

Does your cat have dry, hairless spots? Does she display signs of low or no energy as well as stiff joints? Maybe you need to get them a pharmaceutical grade omega-3 fatty acids fish oil supplement. What? You might be thinking about right now. Well, just like fish oil for human beings, omega-3 fatty acids fish oil for cats can help boost its immune system, cognitive functions, arthritis, behavior, levels of cholesterol, provide cancer prevention and provides them a vibrant coat.

Fish oil with Omega-3 fatty acids for cats may also help with swelling which, if left untreated, can lead to such problems as strokes, heart-attacks, high-cholesterol, early death, and numerous various kinds of infections.

It’s really efficient in treating a multitude of overall health difficulties and maximizing their survival rate. Veterinarians are utilizing fish oil with omega-3 fatty acids for cats as part of a regular treatment routine simply because they are much more easily absorbed into the system and show results quicker than most of the others.

Exactly like our food, their food does not have the extra Omega-3 fatty acids which they require just as much as we do. You might be asking yourself why you should be worried about this kind of a minor dietary detail for a cat, yet let’s face it, exactly what would we do without our furry friends? Study demonstrates those who own pets have significantly much less health difficulties than people who don’t special pets.

It’s been proven that pet owners have a reduced heart attack mortality rate by 3%, better psychological well-being, lower triglyceride and cholesterol levels, much less anxiety, and visit the physician less than people who do not have pets.

Studies also show that kids who have domestic pets develop a nurturing nature that may continue into adulthood, stay involved with extracurricular activities, such as sports activities, clubs, and hobbies, possess increased cognitive capabilities, and less allergic reactions when subjected to pets throughout their first years of life.

After providing your cat omega-3 fatty acids fish oil, you might not see a change for a few months. That is simply because, again, just like us, their bodies change from within. From individual cells, to tissues, to organs, and eventually the skin and hair become glowing. You don’t need to purchase a unique omega-3 fatty acids fish oil for cats, what we use works just fine.

Omega-3 fatty acids that provide most advantages are DHA and EPA. Examine labels carefully to discover the purest type of omega-3 fatty acids fish oil which filter out harmful harmful toxins in the fish from the water streams they come from, making sure it’s been molecularly distilled in order to filter out the toxins which consist of the dangerous chemical substances mercury and dioxin. It is true our cats need all of us for his or her well being just like we need them for our well being.

Natural pet products have primarily consisted of healthier food for cats and dogs that doesn’t contain the types of additives and chemicals found in lower-quality pet food. However, that is no longer exclusively the case. Holistic products for pets now include a wide assortment of herbal and organic remedies geared towards alleviating all kinds of problems, from stress and depression to physical ailments such as arthritis. Whether it’s a tincture, a tablet or an ointment, herbs for pets are relatively harmless and have fewer side effects than traditional medicine. There are some drawbacks, but except in rare instances, natural health and nutrition products for pets are safe alternatives.

Easily administered and free of harmful fillers, chemicals and colorants, herbal tinctures for pets consist of purified water, herbal extracts and grain alcohol. While tablets and pills can be hard to get a pet to swallow, tinctures are liquids and can usually be mixed in with food. Plus, the remedy is absorbed into the pet’s system more quickly when administered this way. Some uses of herbal tinctures for pets include:

* Anti-parasitic

* Antibiotic

* Detoxification

* Allergy relief

* Stress/fear relief

Numerous other herbal and organic remedies for pets are available to treat everything from urinary tract infections and mucous congestion to inflammation of the intestinal tract and respiratory problems. Perhaps one of the more popular uses for herbal remedies is flea and tick control. There are many sprays available made up of essential oils that are known to repel insects.

A short list of herbs and their effectiveness on cats and dogs includes echinacea, an immune-system stimulant; milk thistle, which is useful for treating renal problems; the antiviral St. John’s Wort; and gingko, which can help stave off dementia in older pets. Both ginger root and slippery elm help relieve upset stomachs, while aloe vera is as effective on pets as on humans for soothing sunburns or moistening dry, itchy skin.

Besides herbs, purified water and grain alcohol, natural remedies contain ingredients such as sugars, proteins and minerals of various kinds. Herbal supplements have the advantage of using the whole plant which can improve absorption and ease any side effects.

Despite the anecdotal evidence that herbs for pets are effective, there is no conclusive scientific research indicating that this is so. Moreover, there are no industry-wide guidelines that determine proper dosage, and due to the complexity of the remedies, the exact cause of any side effects can be hard to gauge. Regardless, herbal remedies provide a greater margin for error and have, at worst, limited side effects. When administering a tincture or herbal supplement to a pet, the animal’s weight largely determines the right dosage. It’s important to be patient and consistent, for holistic health products can take longer to work than traditional medicines.

A very unfortunate situation for a family pet to have to endure is the skin condition commonly referred to as mange. The effects of this issue can be very dramatic and troubling for both pets and their owners. All pet owners should take a bit of time to become familiar with this common problem.

This issue is actually a contagious skin disease in which the cause is the infestation is microscopic, parasitic mites. The mites will begin digging into the epidermis of the animal to feed upon skin, hair follicles, and oil glands. The results of this infestation are usually very apparent, and a bit unsettling.

This problem is most commonly known to infest cats and dogs. However, they have the potential to infest other animals and even humans. Although they cannot survive on humans as a host, they can infect the skin and cause discomfort. Eventually, however, they should die off within a couple of weeks.

The symptoms of this skin infestation are usually very apparent and noticeable. The animal will begin developing itchy skin and will scratch at it regularly. This scratching often leads to sores or lesions. Soon, the hair will usually begin falling out in patches resulting in a dramatic change in physical appearance. The animal can become stressed, weak, and can experience weight loss. If gone untreated this issue can result in the death of the animal.

Although prevention is the best approach to the problem, the ease at which the parasite is spread makes this very difficult. The only real tactic is to simply try and keep your animals away from strays or other animals that may have a problem. Also important is ideal hygiene and a proper diet, which boost immunity, helping animals resist such an infection.

You will find numerous treatment options available. It is important, however, that you speak with a qualified veterinarian if it is possible. The vet can then address the severity of the specific case and recommend the best treatment options for your pet. These treatment options generally take the form of medicated dips and injections aimed at killing off the infection.

The skin disease known as mange is a very common issue for pet owners. It is very important, however, that you take the issue seriously and speak with a veterinarian. The issue can become very serious if gone untreated, so consult a vet to discuss the severity of the issue and the treatment options that will help prevent a worsening of the issue and prevent more problems for your pet.

Get complete details on a effective cure for mange today! When you are looking for the mange medicine that will treat your pet quickly, you can find it now!

Mange in dogs is caused by parasitic mites present in and on the skin or embedded in the hair follicles depending on the type of mite. There are two species that can be the cause of mange in dogs, but each will cause intense itch and loss of hair. Infested animals will scratch and bite at the affected areas, and can cause openings in the skin that may become infected.

The canine scabies mite is a mite that burrows under the skin. It also affects humans, cats and other types of animals. It may appear more often in dogs that are not cared for well, but is not limited to this. The first appearance of this usually shows as red, crusted patches on the ears and elbows.

The other type found in dogs is caused by the demodex mite. It is normally present on the skin, and may not cause problems. For some dogs that may have a sensitivity or suppressed immune system, these mites can get out of control. If the dog’s immune system is unable to fight them off, the mites can overpopulate the skin.

Mites can be difficult to diagnose. There should be a microscopic examination of the skin done to attempt diagnosis. This may not always show the presence of mites. Another way to check is to check the Pedal Pinna reflex of the dog. This is achieved by scratching the ears, and if the dog makes a scratching motion with the back leg, it may indicate the presence of mange.

If mange is suspected or confirmed, immediate measures to isolate the dog from other pets should be taken. All bedding and areas that the pet has been in contact with should be washed thoroughly in the hottest possible water, and dried at a high setting. Unwashable items should be treated with a spray to ensure remaining mites are killed.

Treatment can consist of several methods, and can be effective at eradicating the mites. Weekly rinses with sulfurated lime have been effected. There are drips that can be applied to the skin that will destroy the mites and their eggs. Oral medications are available as well, but can be lethal for dogs breeds like collies.

Mange and other skin problems are best treated under the direction of a veterinarian. The most effective treatment methods are only available by prescription. It is best to avoid home remedies as they are rarely effective at removing all mites and can prolong treatment.

There are several different types of parasites than can create the symptoms of mange in your pets. It is important to treat the animal with mange cream or mange spray in order to provide relief from itching.

The common ear mite is a tiny organism that resembles a tick. They can infect many species of animals, but are prevalent in the feline population. Infestation causes the animal to scratch at the ears. When dealing with ear mites, it can be helpful to understand their life cycle.

The adult mite is small and white, almost microscopic, but can be seen by the naked eye if closely inspected. Ear mites almost exclusively live within the ears, although can occasionally migrate to other parts of the body, most often the head. They live by consuming debris, oils and tissue from the ears. Females lay their eggs in the ear lining. They can deposit up to five eggs each day.

After a four day incubation period, the eggs hatch into larvae, which also survive on material within the ear. After several days, they begin to molt into the next stage, which is the nymph. There are two stages to the nymph part of the life cycle, the first is the protonymph, and is followed by the deutonymph.

The deutonymph has an undetermined sex. Whether it will be a male or female is determined following it’s mating with the male adult ear mite. Once mating has happened, the nymph will become a male, which then continues on to mate with other deutonymphs, or a female that will lay eggs as a result of the mating. This entire life cycle takes three weeks. The average lifespan of a mite is up to two months.

The appearance of a dark and waxy or crumbly substance within the ear can be a positive indication of ear mite infestation. An animal can pick up these pests from close contact with another animal that has mites. It can wreak havoc in homes with many pets. Boarding kennels and shelters can see large breakouts due to large animal populations.

If ear mites are suspected, a veterinarian should be consulted for an examination and confirmation. The ears can be cleaned properly, and medication can be administered or prescribed to begin treating the ears and ridding the animal of the mites. If not treated promptly, bacterial and yeast infections can occur, and with excessive scratching in and around the ears, cuts and scratches can become infected and may also require veterinary attention.

It is of utmost importance to ensure treatment for all the animals in the home, or reinfection is inevitable. Keeping pets away from strays and other unknown animals, and in particular, keeping cats indoors can help prevent an infestation of ear mites.

If your furniture is all scratched, if your curtains are shredded and your carpets look like after a war siege, than I’m sure you’re the happy owner of a kitty! When all the above mentioned ‘disasters’ happen, most people get angry with their little furry friends. However, one must not forget that scratching is a natural healthy instinct that helps cats survive and exercise.

Don’t even think about punishing your kitty for behaving normally! She will not understand you, continuing to scratch, this time with an ‘attitude’. Declawing is another bad option – this procedure is painful and has severe side-effects on your pet’s health.

This apparently complicated problem has a very simple solution. All you have to do is buy a cat scratching post! It will allow your kitty to scratch and stretch for as long as she wants, ignoring your new furniture.

You can find many different types of scratching posts on the market. The most common one is the vertical sisal-covered pole which is perfect for most cats, reminding them of the base of a tree. However, for pets with more ‘exquisite’ tastes there are also carpet or cardboard covered scratching posts and also simple wooden posts. The more sophisticated types (especially appropriate for little kittens) include cat gyms, cat condos and cat trees.

Even if it seems difficult, choosing the right scratching post is a simple matter. The first thing you should do is observe your kitty’s preferences. Some cats prefer to scratch horizontally, others – vertically. Some prefer sisal rope, others the soft texture of carpet, others – cardboard. All you have to do is choose the post accordingly!

Another good idea is to measure your cat – literally – and make sure that she is not taller than the post. In fact, the post should be higher than your cat, allowing her to stretch fully. Don’t forget that a good post is sturdy – light posts can easily collapse when scratched with a little more ‘enthusiasm’. For little kittens, toys are extremely beneficial, triggering even more playing, climbing and stretching.

It’s also important to install the post in a ‘strategic’ place. If your cat’s favorite scratching spot is the kitchen wooden cabinet, that’s where the post should be placed! Avoid installing it in a dark storage room – kitties with normal self-respect will never go and play in such a place. After all, they like to socialize and show off a little – why not use this to your own advantage?

When you teach your kitty to use the scratching post, don’t forget that you’re dealing with a feline, not a dog! Cats don’t know what ‘obedience’ means – they are proud and independent creatures that do only what they want. That’s why strictness will not have any positive results. Use patience and encouragements instead – this way the cat will understand on her own that scratching the post feels much better than damaging your new couch!

With a scratching post, you’ll soon forget about the stress of seeing how your new things are being destroyed. You’ll be calm and your kitty will be extremely content, being able to manifest her natural needs. However, don’t forget that cats are very clean animals. They will not scratch a filthy, smelling post – that’s why you have to give it a good wash when you notice that it got dirty.

If you want to stop your kitty from scratching your furniture in a safe and pet-friendly way, check out Lauren Brooks’ site about the benefits of the cat scratching post. Here you can also find many useful tips that will help you choose the best cat scratching post for your little kitten.

Fleas can make your pet miserable. Itching and hair loss are some of the common indications of an infestation of the cat flea, a common pest. To successfully get rid of them, it is important to treat your entire home as well as the pet to prevent re-infestation.

Keep in mind that cat fleas are commonly found on dogs too. They will also bite humans, especially in the ankle areas, but cannot infest them. Understanding the life cycle of the flea is important to successfully treating your pet and ridding them your home.

Adult fleas use your pet as a host. They live and lay their eggs in the animal’s coat and as the eggs begin to dry, they fall out of the coat and settle into the furnishings and carpet. Flea eggs become larvae as they hatch. Adult fleas help to feed the larvae using their feces. As the fecal matter, which contains blood, falls off the animal into the environment, the larvae feed on it, helping them develop into the next stage of their life cycle.

Eventually, the larvae spin cocoons where they will stay as pupae until they change into fleas. When the juvenile fleas sense the presence of a host, they emerge from the cocoon and jump onto the host within seconds, and begin feeding within a few minutes. Knowing this, it is easy to appreciate how hard it can be to break their life cycle and stop them from infesting your home and animals.

If you suspect that your pet has fleas, you can try this simple trick to check. Dampen a paper towel and spread it out under your pet. Gently brush the animal, letting the hair and dander fall onto the paper towel. If there are small, dark particles, watch them for a short time. If they dissolve on the moist paper towel and turn red, this can be evidence of flea excrement, and an indication that your pet has fleas. It is always recommended that you confirm this with your veterinarian.

Once you know for sure, begin treating your pet and home. Carefully read all instructions and warnings on the product label as some can be dangerous if improperly used or administered to the wrong type of animal. Some chemicals can affect people and are unsafe for use around fish tanks. Be sure to follow all directions.

Always ensure that your plan of attack involves your entire house, and any other areas your pet frequents such as the car or backyard. Vacuuming well before beginning can help to encourage the fleas to leave their cocoons, as the vibration works as a stimulant. Once the fleas leave the cocoon, they are far more vulnerable to the treatments and chemicals, helping to ensure a successful result. Always remove and dispose of vacuum bags immediately.

With persistence and vigilance, you can have success in ridding your pet and home of fleas. Sometimes a repeat treatment is necessary to ensure complete eradication. Breaking the flea life cycle is imperative to ensuring they are no longer a problem for your pet and in your home.

When you are looking for an effective and efficient cat flea treatment, you can find it easily! Using pet flea control regularly will help to keep your pets healthy!

You might need a large dog harness for your working dog, or something flashy for a show dog, there are many good choices. Your pet harness should be purchased with it’s desired use and your dog’s breeding in mind. Any dogs collars and dogs harnesses are should be considered tools, you have to find the one that is fitting for your dog and its disposition. Then spend the correct allotment of time required for educating your dog . But for most dogs, a harness should be a safe and effective training accessory.

Using a harness for exercising strong active dogs might seem hard to do but many modern harnesses feature elementary but clever techniques such as the front-attachment rings. When a dog lunges , it induces a small tightening or pressure around the chest and behind the front legs. These gentle but odd feelings cease when the dog stops jerking or lunging. When using this type harness, practice, combined with positive reinforcement, almost all dogs quickly associate pulling with uncomfortable feelings. If your aim is to train a big dog that pulls and lunges on a leash, seek out a training harness with a martingale-type closure that tightens in response to pulling and loosens up when the dog stops and the leash relaxes.

If your dog likes to swim, or you live in a rainy, humid climate, you’ll want a more durable nylon harness. For a well-mannered dog that doesn’t get wet very often, leather is an elegant , wear resistant choice. A reflective harness and leash combination might be right if you and your dog are out after dark. After choosing your harness the harness training, like all training, requires repetition and patience. Most owners that try harness training experience very good results.

For the smaller dog that simply requires a walking harness, style might be your main goal and there is a multitude of designer or fancy made harnesses to choose from. Quality dog harnesses are constructed from leather or nylon, with each material having advantages and disadvantages. Some other options to consider are: padding, spikes, buckles, Velcro, front leash rings or top of the shoulder leash attachments.

When doing your research on a dog harness, make sure to take into consideration ALL the features you may require. Don’t forget, just by choosing a harness, you’re taking a step in the right direction that will be protecting your dog’s health and well being.

If you are looking for a nylon dog harness be sure to include this site. All the dogs harnesses here are top quality.

Siamese cats are a wonderful breed to have in your home: They’re great with children, don’t typically scratch people or furniture, aren’t known for chewing electrical cords or other household items and are a beautiful animal to showcase to your friends and guests. When making the decision to purchase one, you need to ask different Siamese cat breeders a few questions, to make sure you’re making a good investments, rather than buying problems for yourself.

1.Ask for references. Most people don’t buy an exotic breed of animal, without research and your best research hear will be to ask Siamese cat breeders for references from past and current customers. If the breeder seems put off by your request, or needs time to get them together — be wary. Most breeders will be ready for the request and will have a list readily available for you, and other potential customers.

2.Ask to see the cat’s certification and/or the parent’s certification. Most health problems are hereditary and if Siamese cat breeders don’t have the paperwork to prove the cat’s family history: You may be looking at expensive health complications in the future.

3.Ask about guarantees. A quality breeder, who cares about their reputation will offer you a guarantee that the cat will be free of hereditary illnesses. Considering that you’re paying well for a special breed of feline, rather than picking one up at the animal shelter — a guarantee should be a must unless you’re receiving a considerable discount.

4.Ask about what treatments that the cat has had. All kittens need to be de-wormed and receive their scheduled vaccinations. Any good Siamese cat breeders will already be ahead of the required vaccination schedules.

5.Ask about recommendations for taking care of your new cat. A knowledgeable breeder will be able to quickly educate you on how to care for your cat and will offer themselves as a resource for information throughout the course of your cat’s life.
