Having a pet is just like having a kid in your home; we love our pets and always want to make sure they are healthy and feeling well. One of the main concerns we have as cat owners is how can we tell if our cat is sick?

It is important to know that we are the responsible ones in recognizing any sick cat symptoms and you don’t have to be a doctor for this. As with humans, you can tell whether or not they are feeling well, so let’s take a look at some common symptoms:

Weight loss. With sickness appetite is affected and we can be witnesses of how our cat starts losing weight and change his dietary habits. A quick drop of weight loss can be serious, visit your doctor.

Coughing. Like in the case of humans, coughing can be normal and a reaction to clear up the throat. However, it can also be a symptoms to watch out for. A visit to the doctor must be made if your cat keeps on coughing for more than a week.

Fever: If you suspect your cat isn’t feeling well, you can check up the cat’s body temperature. If your cat is shivering or feeling warm, he may be suffering of fever.

These are some of the most common symptoms of a sick cat, and they can vary in strength and severity. If you notice them, the best step would be to take your cat to the veterinary to verify the symptoms and give you a proper diagnose. Our cats can suffer different kinds of problems including diabetes and allergies.

If you want to be sure your cat stays healthy, prevention is key. Daily prevention steps must be taken like keeping away plants that are poisonous to cats or keeping a good cat diet with enough nutrients and vitamins.

As you can see, we have to take care of our cat’s health just as if our pet was a child. Thanks to simple observation we will be able to tell a difference in the behavior and body language of our cat.
