The dietary needs of cats and kittens vary from that of dogs and puppies. They have different food preferences, and the timetable of feeding also differs. There are many things that should be taken into account when it comes to feeding your cats. Some of them are explained below.

As far as the quantity is concerned, a normal adult cat requires about half an ounce for every pound of the body weight. Meaning a cat weighing 10 pounds would need 5 ounces. This is true for cats with not special needs.

Dietary needs vary with age too. Older cats require less quantity of food and, perhaps, the food should be lighter in mature too.

Cats can not make their own Vitamin A. Therefore, their food should contain Vitamin A. Many animals have the capability of manufacturing Vitamin A from Carotenoids but cats lacks this ability.

Coming back to nutrition, cats have some specific needs. For one, they need Taurine. It is an essential for their vision. Otherwise, they could go blind. We like dogs are able to produce Taurine in our bodies but this is not the case with cats. Therefore, their diets should contain enough Taurine.

As cats become older, they require less food. Usually, the food should also be light in nature. The dietary requirements also vary by breeds. Nonetheless, the members of the same breed might have different needs as well. Your browser may not support display of this image. Your browser may not support display of this image.
