As we all know, dogs have no problem about what they eat. If there is something lying around on the floor, they will snarf it right up whatever it turns out to be. Well, you might not think that there would be a problem with that, but dogs aren’t just playing around with your discards. The stuff you leave around can kill them.

Some things can be really deadly. Like chocolate, for example. Some people might share a bit with their dogs, but others may have an adverse reaction.

Onions are another one. What is a great addition to a meal for you or I, can actually turn into poison in the inside of a dog’s body.

Garlic and mushrooms are another two hazards to a dog. Especially garlic can become a toxic compound on the inside of a dog.

Now, most dogs can consume seeds without any ill effects. But when it comes to apples, the seeds are a little more dangerous, and can even be fatal to a god.

Another potentially deadly situation can involve poultry bones, such as those from chickens or turkeys. These bones are hollow, unlike those from cows or pigs. That means they are brittle and can shatter in a dog’s mouth. If that happens, the bones can leave sharp points that can cause serious damage to the inside of a dog’s body.

You should know very well that any dog, especially a young one, will get its mouth around nearly anything it can. These are just a few of the things you should look out for when caring for your pet. A little attention will go a very long way.

Your number one priority for your pet should be looking after him or her and keeping them safe. Paying attention to the foods listed above will be a great start toward ensuring your pet’s safety. Keep the trash free and clear of any potential interaction and you’ll be in much better shape.

There is a fallacy that people who own short haired dogs do not need to groom them. Let me put you straight right now people with short haired dogs will need to still groom them properly. This means bathing and brushing them.

Not only does brushing your dogs coat prevent it from shedding all over the place but it also gives it that nice glossy look.

Many dogs will suffer from their skin drying out in warm conditions but by brushing the dog’s hair you can actually stimulate the skin oils which can help to give the dogs coat a glossy and healthier appearance to it.

It is recommended that you bathe your dog regularly as bathing them infrequently can also dry out the skin and this can cause problems for the dog. If the skin dries out too much they will get flaky skin which can lead to not only hair loss but also to infections.

Another way to keep your dog healthy and fit is too give them a proper well balanced diet. The commercial dry dog food that you can buy often contains enough nutrients to keep your dog healthy and happy. If you wish you could also get your vet to make sure that your dog is getting enough healthy vitamins from its food.

Dogs also need their claws trimming regularly too as part of the grooming ritual. This is not just to make the dog look nice though, this is because if the claws grow too long they could eventually embed themselves into the dog’s skin which can lead to some very serious infections of the foot and could be very painful for your dog.

Yet there are still dog owners that do not want to burden themselves with grooming as they do not think that they have the time to do it. They also do not have the time to have the dog professionally groomed.

Grooming your dog takes less time than you think and is the responsibility of every good dog owner. Not grooming your dog will probably lead to your dog needing more treatment and may inevitably end up with more visits to the vet which will take up more of your precious time and money.

This author also regularly gives advice regarding topics including ice bag and soccer shoes for kids.

At first, it might not seem like a very good idea to bring a pet into a city apartment since they are, for the most part, cramped and quite small. Having another living being stay with us in our homes might just clutter it up even more.

It is a fact, though, that having a pet live with us will bring us entertainment, companionship and joy, among other things. That is definitely the reason that there are so many people living in city apartments with pets.

You will see that one animal is going to be called more suitable to be in a city apartment than others are; it all depends on exactly which pets people tend to like more. Let me be objective about the situation and talk about both the pros and cons of each animal in that setting.

First, let’s take a look at dogs. On the plus side, they’ll be extremely loyal and generally more active than cats are. Dogs will likely follow you often, while cats tend to do the opposite.

A dog might not be the best choice if you are a busy person without much time to give them attention. On the contrary, someone is going to appreciate this about dogs if they really like having the companionship of a friend who is always there for them.

With a cat, they do not require as much attention as dogs and generally keep to themselves. Yes, they will come to you for the occasional cuddle, but they can pretty much maintain themselves.

When it comes to being active, dogs definitely need to get outside a lot during the day. The task of walking a dog will be enjoyed by you if you like to get out in the fresh air.

On the other hand, there are many indoor cats that don’t need to go outside at all. With the simple use of a litter box, you’ll have everything handled from the comfort of your own home.

Well, it might seem like having a cat in the city is easier than having a dog. Nevertheless, so many folks just can’t get around the love they have for dogs.

Just like with people, aging takes its toll on pets. Eventually it becomes necessary to take preventative steps to ensure their old age is as healthy and comfortable as possible. Step one, is to have your pet examined each year by a veterinarian. Additional visits maybe necessary depending on your pet’s health.

To be their healthiest, pets need to maintain a healthy weight. An overweight pet has a tendency to have debilitating health problems, such as joint pain, arthritis, diabetes or liver and kidney malfunctions.

Reduce the amount of special treats you feed your pets. Pets love their treats and may be hard to resist, but every extra treat brings along extra calories they will have to burn off to be at a healthy weight. So, when they are begging for kibble keep in mind their health is at stake.

When feeding your pet, it’s best to give it one meal a day or several small meals throughout the day. Be sure to remove any food in the bowl after it has finished eating. Tell your children not to give the pet any extra food and explain why it’s a bad idea.

A consistent supply of fresh water is crucial for your pet to stay healthy and hydrated. Sometimes older pets have trouble reaching the water bowl. If so, use an elevated water dish and place it in a central location so they will always have a drink nearby.

A daily walk is beneficial to your pet and to you. Regular exercise improves circulation and provides a change of scenery so your pet doesn’t get bored. Your pet enjoys spending time with you as much as you enjoy spending time with it.

As your pet ages you may find they can no longer digest dry food or it may be too hard on its teeth. When that happens, switch to moist or canned dog food.

No matter what your pets’ age, regular visits to the veterinarian will help detect potential problems and keep them their healthiest.

Puppies are a great addition to your family, but they are also very active and need lots of exercise. Taking them on a 30 to 60 minute walk every day can provide them with the exercise they need.

Puppies are a great addition to your family, but they are also very active and need lots of exercise. Taking them on a 30 to 60 minute walk every day can provide them with the exercise they need.

Most of us have busy schedules, however, and it can be hard to find the time to walk a puppy for that long every day. You can still make sure your puppy gets enough exercise by giving him enough room in your yard to run around and play. If space is an issue, you can walk him in the local park or at the high school track.

One fun way to give your puppy some exercise is to train him to run on your treadmill with you. You’ll get to spend time together and you’ll both get some exercise.

Dogs typically require different amounts of exercise depending on their age, so consider your dog’s needs and devise a schedule or plan. Puppies love to go for a run while older dogs often prefer to take a walk. With puppies, try to gradually build up your exercise time from 15 minutes upwards as they grow bigger and stronger.

Some people like to walk their dogs at night. If you find this convenient, be sure to wear reflective clothing so that drivers can see you. Additionally, wearing bright clothes makes you more visible.

When taking a puppy out for some exercise, the best time is right before or right after he eats. Puppies get thirsty after playing for awhile, but be sure to give him small amounts of water so that he doesn’t fill up and get an upset stomach.

When you’re finished walking the puppy, check his paws for any foreign objects that may have become stuck in them. Burrs, rocks, glass, and ice can all become stuck and cause the puppy pain, and you should remove them quickly.

Many people love playing fetch with their dogs, and it can be a great way to give them the exercise they need. You can teach a puppy to play by rolling a toy near him and giving him praise when he brings the toy back to you. As he gets older, you can begin throwing the toy longer distances. Remember to reward him each time he returns the toy.

The writer also frequently blogs about subject such as beam steel and aluminum I beam.

Cats have always been very good at communicating with humans. If you take time to understand what exactly a cat wants you can build a long lasting relationship with your cat.

If you see your cats tail pointing straight up or she is waving it from side to side then they are obviously trying to make you aware of something. If however they start hissing you know that something has got them upset.

You can also tell a lot about a cat’s state of mind by its eyes. If a cat is content with everything then the eyes may be half closed. If, however, you look and the eyes are dilated and wide, it could be that this is probably a sign of fear or anger.

A cat sound is much more than a simple “meow”, as a cat has around nineteen different variations of “meow”. The cat sound apparently can be broken down into three categories: open and closed mouth sounds, murmuring or purring and more intense sounds.

A cat will make a very low murmuring sound when it knows that it is in for a treat. Some people think this is a purring sound. Although purring is normally a sign that a cat is happy, it is not always the case. Have you ever noticed that a cat also purrs if it is being handled by a vet or other strangers?

The cat makes a slightly different sound when it is asking to be fed, or when it comes over to greet you.

There are the intense vocal sounds that a cat makes with its mouth wide open. These are normally a sign of fear, anger or pain. Some cats seem to talk more than others. If you listen to your cat and compare them to other cats you may see a difference.

All these different sounds are the cat’s way of communicating with us. If we take the time to look after our cats and get to know what they are telling us, maybe this will benefit the both of us.

Mans best friend, the dog. Lovable and playful and if you are not careful it will eat you out of house and home. Yes, the dog loves nothing better than to find something to chew on. This may not sound like a big problem, but some of the foods that we take for granted can actually be very fatal to a dog.

It is a well known fact that dogs should not eat any chocolate. Maybe a little chocolate here or there might not be too bad for some dogs. Apparently with other dogs it can be disastrous, the worst ones being dark chocolate or baking chocolate.

There are certain chemicals inside Onions that can be fatal to a dog; this is because the chemicals can turn into a poison once it enters the dog’s digestive system.

Two more foods to stay well away from are Garlic and Mushrooms, unfortunately the toxic effect of Garlic within a dog can be both fatal and quick, so if you are out walking with your dog in the fields always keep a close eye on what they get up to.

Anything with seeds in them can be a problem too; some dogs may just get a sickly tummy if they eat seeds, but others could end up much worse. Try to remember this when disposing of your garbage, as we all know how inquisitive dogs can be.

Another thing that can have serious repercussions if a dog gets hold of them is poultry bones. Normal bones are good for dogs to chew on but poultry bones are a different matter altogether. These shatter quite easily and leave very sharp points protruding out. If these should become trapped inside a dog’s stomach or Intestine the consequences do not bear thinking about.

Dogs are not a canine version of a garbage can, even though they do eat almost anything. Do not leave food out for your dog or anybody else’s dog to find, keep temptation out of their way.

Make your dogs life a happier and longer one. You just never know what is out there, do not tempt fate by letting it eat something that it should not be eating, and nobody wants to lose their pet unnecessarily.

The way that a dog barks has been developed over the years by our training processes, we have adapted the dog to bark to help us out, and whether it is to round the sheep up on the farm or to deter intruders on our property, the dog’s bark is for a reason.

Training has helped the dog to communicate with its master by barking when it gets excited or if it just wants to let you know something.

Try to always know what your dog is trying to tell you. If you just reward your dog when he barks it will only keep him quiet for a while, and then he will start to bark again. This is because he is associating the reward with his barking.

If you have a dog that barks a lot you really needs to find out the cause of his barking. Is he barking because he wants to warn you of something or is he trying to tell you something? If he is just barking out of the need to get attention then wait until he goes quiet and reward him. That way he will know that he does not have to bark all the time to get the attention he craves for.

If you just reward the dog when he barks as a way to keep him quiet then he will just keep barking.

There are some dogs that will bark at almost anything. If someone comes too close they will bark. They sometimes even bark at people who are on the opposite side of the street from you. These are very territorial creatures.

The way to try to stop the dog barking all the time is to try to distract him when he barks. Once you have got his attention try playing with him until he is quiet. Once he has quietened down you could give him a treat, that way he will recognise that being good and not barking will get him more rewards.

Communication with your dog is good for you and for him. He will get the attention he needs and you will get the peace and quiet that you need.

Dog owners love giving their dogs treats, and obviously the dog itself is a grateful recipient.

Dog owners love giving their dogs treats, and obviously the dog itself is a grateful recipient.

Wherever you go for your dog treats, you can’t have failed to see the vast array that is on display. Be careful about what you buy, some of those treats can be very bad for your pooch.

You would never think that your dog could be harmed by his treats, but it is possible. Here are a few things that dog lovers should bear in mind before they part with their cash for their treats.

Manufacturers of dog treats are very clever; and market them as having a dual purpose. Greenies are a prime example, as they are meant to clean your dogs teeth too. A puppy can easily choke on a Greenie, and you should never leave an older dog alone with one either.

Another popular favorite are the rawhide chews. I don’t know of a dog that doesn’t like these. These keep your dog occupied and clean their teeth at the same time. Unfortunately, rawhide chews can also prove to be dangerous.

If your dog is particularly fond of his rawhide treats, you don’t have to stop giving them to him, just be careful. As a lot of foreign rawhide is preserved in nasty chemicals such as Arsenic, make sure that when you buy this for your dog, you only buy rawhide from the US.

Even though chocolate is the biggest selling treat in the world, were you aware that chocolate is in fact toxic to cats and dogs. When you have a lot of it around, at Christmas etc, put it in a cupboard so they can’t steal any when you aren’t around.

There is an ingredient in chocolate that in a small amount can give your pet hyperactivity, and in a large dose could kill them. This ingredient in call Theobromine, so keep the chocolate locked away.

Cats naturally amuse themselves, and we have all laughed at our cat's antics as they chase their tails or attack a slipper. Bearing this is mind; I personally wouldn't spend a lot of money on a cat toy that they will probably be bored with an hour later.

Cats naturally amuse themselves, and we have all laughed at our cat’s antics as they chase their tails or attack a slipper. Bearing this is mind; I personally wouldn’t spend a lot of money on a cat toy that they will probably be bored with an hour later.

A cat gets bored very easily and if it isn’t getting attention it starts to be naughty, not unlike a young child. We have a few hints for cat toys that they won’t lose interest in after an hour.

If you are having problems with your cat trying to climb your curtain and running the fabric, get your kitty a cat tower. Your cat will love this and you can get them in all different heights and styles so your cat will be amused for hours.

A stuffed mouse is a perennial favorite and it’s easy to see why. They can throw them, chew them and bash them around to their heart’s content. There are various kinds of stuffed mice and by process of elimination you will find your cat’s favorite.

Cats can be destructive creatures, and the main cause of this is boredom. Downstairs alone through the night with no interaction, they relieve their boredom by going mad with your stuff. Giving him a catnip toy to play with an hour before you go to bed will make your cat sleep while you do.

What the manufacturers of catnip toys don’t tell you is that giving them to your cat every day can have adverse effects on their moods and overall behavior. Use these toys sparingly so a dependency doesn’t develop.

If you enjoy watching your cat play, you will be in hysterics if you give them a tatty old stuffed toy to play with, especially if it is bigger than the cat. My family have cried with laughter at our cat doing battle with a large teddy bear, and he wore himself out very quickly too.

Have these toys at your disposal and you will have a very happy cat.

When you decide to go travelling do you plan to take your pets with you? This can be a hassle free time if you just take the time to follow a few guidelines!

When you decide to go travelling do you plan to take your pets with you? This can be a hassle free time if you just take the time to follow a few guidelines!

Medication for your pet can be a worry when you decide to go travelling, but if you make sure that you have enough medication for the duration of your stay then you should be okay. Carry your veterinarian’s number with you in case of any emergency, or in case you need another prescription is also another good idea.

Planning ahead is vitally important to a stress free break. You should always be aware that not all places accept pets and you should always check in advance that the place you are planning to stay in is welcoming of pets.

If your pet is a dog always make sure that your pet is wearing its tags, one should clearly state your dog’s name, with your address and phone numbers on it and another tag should be a current rabies tag.

You could opt for your pet to be micro chipped; this is a very good source of identification. Likewise if you have a cell phone with you, make sure that your cell phone number is on the dog’s tag, just in case it gets lost on your journey.

Try to make your pet a little more relaxed on the journey by bringing along some of their favourite possessions such as blanket, pillow or food dish. The more relaxed your pet is the more enjoyable your journey will be.

Always take frequent breaks on your journey. There are plenty rest stops on the highway to allow your pet some light relief and exercise. The exercise may make your pet tired and they may rest for part of the journey, and this may stop them pacing about restlessly in your vehicle.

These facilities are to help out pet owners on their journeys. Make sure that you have the courtesy to clean up after your pets; this will maintain that these facilities exist in the future for other pet lovers.

The writer also frequently blogs on products like large floor pillows and seat cushion.

One of my favorite creatures to have as a pet is a Parrot. They are very intelligent birds and they learn so quickly they are a pleasure to train.

We all know that intelligence can be a burden. Highly intelligent people need constant stimulation to stop them becoming bored and irritable; and Parrots are exactly the same. You need to spend an awful lot of time with them so they respond to you and interact.

A few things will help you while training your Parrot; so keep these in mind. For a start, always let your Parrot out of their cage to do the training. Find a quiet spot with limited space and the new environment with interest your Parrot. He will be a lot more responsive when taken out of his everyday environment.

You also must make sure that wherever you are training your Parrot is free from distractions such as a cell phone, television and radio. Your Parrot needs to focus so removing all these will ensure that he is.

Don’t think that your Parrot will learn quicker by having long training sessions. They have a very short attention span so make sure the sessions are short but frequent.

Think carefully about the time of day you are training your Parrot too, don’t expect him to fit in with your schedule as it just won’t happen. A perfect time for training is after they’ve been fed as they will be very content and attentive.

As when training any animal, make sure that you heap the praise on your Parrot when he does well. Even if you feel that the session didn’t go that well, don’t let it show as they are also very intuitive and will pick up on your mood. This will make him withdrawn and ultimately a lot harder to train.

Training a Parrot is anything but easy, so don’t start it if you don’t think you have the patience and commitment to see it through. If you can stick with it, you will be so proud of the amazing companion you will have for years to come.

Don't panic if your kitten develops a cold. There is plenty you can do to make her feel better again.

Don’t panic if your kitten develops a cold. There is plenty you can do to make her feel better again.

You need to quickly isolate your poorly kitty so any other animals in the house don’t catch the cold. Place your patient in a quiet place to they can recuperate without any visitors.

Kittens need to be kept warm anyway, but when they are poorly it is even more important. Wrapping your cat in a warm blanket is a good idea, but you must make sure that she doesn’t develop a fever. This best way to do this is to take her temperature regularly using rectal thermometer. As long as it stays below 103degrees f she’s ok. If it goes above get some advice from your vet.

Regular small meals throughout the day is the way to go food wise, but she must take in plenty of water to avoid dehydration. Giving her this with a dropper or syringe will get the liquid into her that she needs.

It’s easy to use these methods to administer liquids, but what if your puss is refusing to eat? A good tip is to try her with baby food of a chicken variety. Vitamin C is good for boosting the immune system, so if you have some of this mix it into her food

The bedding needs to be changed regularly and both this and her toys need to be disinfected regularly, and bleach is the best product to use for this. You should never use anything phenol based as this could poison your kitten.

Your little kittens eyes, nose and mouth may be sticky or crusty due to the cold, so wipe them gently with a warm, damp washcloth. A few drops of saline in her nostrils and then wiped should help her breathe easier through her nose.

Despite all your loving care, your kitten may well still end up at a vets. Signs to look out for are a prolonged fever, refusal to eat at all, dehydration and if she has taken an obvious turn for the worst.

Cats are one of the most common household pets in our homes today. They are specifically known as domesticated cats in an effort to classify them from their untamed counterparts in the wild.

Companionship is one of the greatest gifts that they can offer to their masters. This is largely demonstrated by their sweet and loving disposition.

Many pet owners prefer a cat for this reason compared to other pets and it has been made relatively easy to own one, especially today with pet shops and pound in nearly every city. Due to the bonds that these creatures have shared with humans for generations, it is not uncommon to see them in every part of the world.

You may be wondering what advantages they can offer you as a pet owner should you go ahead and jump in with a new feline friend. If so then this article may just help and provide you with an insight with regards to raising a cat.

First off, it is always good to know that cats have one of the finest techniques in providing their masters some well needed stress relief. Many people keep pets for this purpose alone. If you are one of them then you can no never go wrong with a cat.

They are also known to be one of the most hygienic creatures that a pet owner can get. Cats are always meticulous in keeping themselves clean. A toilet trained one is even better and can give you a peace of mind of a germ free and relatively clean indoor environment.

In contrast, dogs need to have sufficient exercise and a walk at the park each day. That is if you don’t want them soiling your floor or your front yard.

In contrast, cats are perfectly well suited to playing inside the house all the time. You can keep them indoors with no real trouble.

Set your expectations though once you do get a feline friend. Due to their playful nature they may be a little harder to undergo any kind of obedience training. It can be easily done however, with patience and the right skills.
